MAY 13, 2020

On May 7, 2020, Governor Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-77 extending the Stay-At-Home Order in the State of Michigan through May 28, 2020. Unfortunately, this means that Menominee County cannot open the county campgrounds as planned on May 16, 2020.

Menominee County is tentatively rescheduling the opening of the campgrounds at Shakey Lakes Park, Kleinke Park, and River Park (located approximately 16 miles north of the City of Menominee on River Drive) for May 29, 2020 unless otherwise ordered by the State of Michigan that the campgrounds must remain closed beyond this date. The County will begin taking reservations “by phone only” on June 1, 2020 at 7:00 AM CST. You may call 906-753-4582 to make your reservations. There will not be a limit on the number of reservations any single person can make on this date; however, all reservations will have to be paid in full within 10 days or they are forfeited.

Once we know for sure when the campgrounds can open, park staff will be reaching out to lessees of seasonal sites at Shakey Lakes Park and Kleinke Park regarding refunds or other arrangements for credits for the portion of their leases that they are losing for this season.

At this time, no reservations will be taken for pavilion rentals at any of the Menominee County parks. Other amenities typically offered at our parks may also be limited. All park patrons will be asked to continue to adhere to social distancing practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and to limit the size of their camping parties to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

We understand your disappointment, as we were really looking forward to opening our campgrounds this coming weekend. However, our parks and boat landings are open and we invite you to explore!

Additional questions should be directed to Jason Carviou, County Administrator, at 906-863-9648 or by email at JCarviou@menomineeco.com.
