Sept. 25, 2009 @ 9:00 am: Special Meeting at Men.Co. ISD Bldg.
Homeland Security is giving excess funds still available from earlier programs to Michagan Counties. Our portion is $39,915.00, and we recently learned that must indicate where we will spend these funds by 10/1/09 or risk losing them.
BUDGET- It was determined through discussion that $500,000 will be allocated as a set-aside for Counties based on a formula calculated using County population. This leaves approximately $825,000.00 for Region-wide Projects.
Each County Regional Board Chair should meet with their Local Planning Team and develop a list of projects that they would like to complete with an estimated cost. The projects must meet one of the objectives listed in the Strategy. This list must be submitted to Tim McKee at tmckee@chippewacountymi.gov on or before October 1, 2009. A list will be compiled for review by the regional board at the October 8, 2009 meeting where decisions will be made as to which projects may be considered as region-wide projects. Additional information will be submitted to each County Planning Team. County Distributions – This will be referred to as County Set-Asides.
The Board has had many conversations regarding a set aside for each County to be able to complete some of the specific projects that meet the goals and objectives identified in the strategy but have been unfunded or under-funded. A worksheet was compiled identifying the utilization of $500,000.00 and basing the distribution on County population. There was much discussion regarding how the funds would be allocated, what formula to use and the process. Jack Deuweke made a motion to accept the formula and distribution as presented. It was seconded by Tom Kitzman. Upon roll call vote all present voted aye with one nay. Motion carried. Information will be distributed to each County.
