The Menominee County Sheriff's Office is pleased to provide the Project Lifesaver program to local residents. Thanks to continued grant funding, this electronic search and rescue program is offered at no cost to families of "at risk" individuals - those who are prone to wandering due to Alzheimers, dementia, autism, or other cognitive impairments.
ABOUT PROJECT LIFESAVER
Clients enrolled in the Project Lifesaver program will wear a wrist-watch sized radio transmitter on their wrist or ankle. The wearable transmitter constantly emits a Radio Frequency signal, which can be tracked by law enforcement officers and certified volunteers using a handheld receiver. If a program participant goes missing, caregivers notify the Menominee County Sheriff's Office, and Deputies and search and rescue volunteers are dispatched to the area to locate the wanderer via their unique transmitter signal.
Unlike cellular devices, radio frequency technology allows for tracking even in remote areas, including dense forests, swamps and marshes, concrete structures, and steel buildings.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Menominee County's Project Lifesaver program is currently fully-funded via grants and donations - there is no cost for participation. Families who wish to enroll a loved one in the Project Lifesaver program should complete the Project Lifesaver application form. As part of the application process, a medical professional must provide certification of the participant's cognitive impairment or diagnoses. Families must be willing to test and maintain the transmitter bracelet, and meet with program staff at regular intervals for battery changes.
