Job Summary

The Operations Technician supports the daily operations of the Menominee Regional Airport by maintaining the buildings, grounds, and equipment, providing aircraft fueling and movement services, general administration, and providing customer service to users and guests of the airport. 
 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
 
The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position.  Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
 
Buildings Maintenance
  • Keep all buildings in clean, neat, and tidy appearance.
    • Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors.
    • Wash glass windows and doors.
    • Dispose of trash and replace bags in trash receptacles.  
    • Clean bathroom fixtures & replenish consumable products.
    • Order & inventory janitorial supplies & consumable products.
    • Pressure wash exterior of buildings.
    • Other janitorial duties as assigned.
  • Perform general maintenance on all buildings.
    • Replace lightbulbs.
    • Replace HVAC filters.
    • Repair broken fixtures.
    • General plumbing, electrical, and HVAC maintenance and repairs.
    • Light carpentry, painting, and other general repairs. 
 Grounds Maintenance
  •  Keep all grounds in clean, neat, and tidy appearance.
    • Cut grass using push mowers, zero-turn mowers, riding mowers, and tractors with grass & brush cutting implements.
    • Trim grass around fences, buildings, lights, & signs.
    • Pull weeds from landscaping & paved areas.
    • Trim trees, bushes, and other vegetation as necessary.
    • Cut trees and branches using a chainsaw and perform other brushing operations as necessary.
  • Keep all runways, taxilanes, aprons, parking lots, and sidewalks clear of snow and ice.
    • Snow & ice removal operations require using shovels, walk-behind snowblowers, traditional truck with plow, tractors with snowblowers and blades, front end loader with push box or snowblower, skid steer with snow removal implements, and grader.
  • Maintain and repair fencing.
  • Maintain and repair runway/taxilane lighting systems and other aeronautical navigation equipment as necessary. 
Equipment Maintenance
  •  Perform general & routine maintenance on equipment used at the Menominee Regional Airport.
    • Check fluid levels and fill as necessary.
    • Perform routine oil changes.
    • Grease pins, pivots, axles, etc.
    • Change cutting blades & edges.
    • Replace hydraulic lines & fittings.
    • Other light automotive & equipment maintenance as assigned.
  • Repair of fix broken equipment.
  • Clean the exterior & interior of equipment, 
Aircraft Fueling & Movement Services
  • Tow and maneuver aircraft into position for fueling or parking.
  • Fuel aircraft.
  • Maintain fuel farm equipment and underground storage tanks.
  • Maintain fuel inventory and order fuel as necessary. 
General Administration
 
  • Receive payments for fuel purchases, landing fees, parking fees, and other services & goods that are provided.
  • Manage the prepaid fuel program.
  • Manage and schedule use of the courtesy vehicles. 
  • Reconcile payments & receipts and make deposits.
  • Answer phones and emails – provide information about the Menominee Regional Airport.
  • Publish Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs) containing information essential to personnel concerned with flight operations.
  • Ensure the airport is in compliance with all FAA & MDOT-AERO regulatory requirements.
  • Enforce the Menominee Regional Airport Use Ordinance.
  • Other general bookkeeping, recordkeeping, clerical, and administrative duties as assigned.  
Minimum Qualifications Required
 
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
Experience:
  • One to two years of experience applicable to some of the essential functions and responsibilities contained within this position description. 
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
  • Class A Underground Storage Tank Operator Certification – within six months of hire.
  • Class B Underground Storage Tank Operator Certification – within six months of hire.
  • Airport Assistant Manager License – within two years of hire.  
Preferred Qualifications
 
Experience:
  • Some aviation experience.
  • Some experience operating larger equipment, such as tractors, front end loaders, graders, etc.
  • Some experience working with HVAC, electrical, and or plumbing.
  • Some light automotive and/or equipment maintenance experience.
  • Some welding experience.
  • Some carpentry and/or other trade experience.

Building & Grounds Maintenance
  • Basic knowledge of custodial cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of general building maintenance practices.
  • Fundamental understanding of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of safe use of hand and power tools.
  • Basic landscaping and groundskeeping practices.
  • Knowledge of snow and ice removal techniques. 
Equipment & Mechanical
  • Basic knowledge of light automotive and small engine maintenance.
  • Understanding of preventive maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of safe equipment operation practices.
  • Basic hydraulic system awareness. 
Aviation & Fueling Operations
  • Basic knowledge of safe fueling procedures (or ability to learn upon hire).
  • Understanding of fuel storage and handling safety principles.
  • Awareness of aircraft ground movement safety procedures.
  • General understanding of airport operations (or ability to acquire within probationary period). 
Regulatory & Safety
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices (OSHA principles).
  • Ability to understand and follow FAA and MDOT-AERO regulations (with training).
  • Understanding of hazardous materials handling and spill response basics. 
Administrative
  • Basic knowledge of cash handling and recordkeeping procedures.
  • Familiarity with standard office practices and customer service principles.
  • Basic computer knowledge (email, data entry, simple record systems). 
Minimum Skills
 
Technical & Mechanical Skills
  • Skill in performing routine building repairs and maintenance.
  • Skill in operating lawn equipment and snow removal equipment.
  • Skill in using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely.
  • Skill in performing routine equipment maintenance (oil changes, lubrication, blade replacement, etc.).
  • Skill in safely fueling aircraft and operating fueling equipment (after training). 
Equipment Operation Skills
  • Ability to safely operate:
    • Lawn mowers (push, riding, zero-turn)
    • Snow removal equipment (plows, snowblowers, skid steer, tractors, loader)
    • Pickup trucks and utility vehicles
  • Ability to tow and maneuver aircraft safely (with training) 
Administrative & Communication Skills
  • Basic cash handling and reconciliation skills
  • Basic data entry and recordkeeping skills
  • Ability to answer phones and communicate professionally in person and via email
  • Ability to prepare and publish NOTAMs accurately (with training)

    • Class A & B Underground Storage Tank Operator Certifications
    • Airport Assistant Manager License
