Foreclosure Timeline
Tax Year: Payable to City/Township Treasurer
July 1: Summer tax, billed by local Treasurers, due by September 14.
September 15: 1% interest per month is added to delinquent Summer tax.
December 1: Winter tax, billed by local Treasurers, due by end of February.
March 1: Local Treasurers turn over unpaid taxes to County Treasurer.
Tax Year + 1: Payable to County Treasurer
March 1: Unpaid taxes are delinquent and turned over to County Treasurer for collection. 4% administration fee, and 1% per month interest is added.
Tax Year + 2: Payable to County Treasurer
March 1: Delinquent property forfeits to County Treasurer. $175 title fee is added. Interest increases to 1.5% per month, and calculated from March 1 preceding forfeiture.
Tax Year + 3: Payable to County Treasurer
January 30-February 28: Judicial foreclosure hearing held.
March 30: Deadline for Circuit court to enter judgment of foreclosure. Owner has until March 31 to pay delinquent tax, and prevent foreclosure.
April 1: Title vests in the Foreclosing Governmental Unit-County Treasurer.
July: First opportunity to offer property at auction.
