APCO International LogoMenominee County 911 uses APCO International Institute’s Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) program. The Program is based on the NHTSA National Standard Curriculum for EMD and incorporates all of the current ASTM International guidelines in a comprehensive EMD package approved by a local Medical Control Authority.

Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) is a systematic program of handling medical calls for assistance. Trained telecommunicators use locally approved EMD guidecards to quickly and properly determine the nature and priority of the call, dispatch the appropriate response and give the caller instructions to help treat the patient until the responding EMS unit arrives.

Menominee County 911 Telecommunicators, certified through APCO, are able to provide pre-arrival instruction for Medical Emergencies and Trauma using vital point questioning to determine appropriate response, while relaying information to emergency medical services. They are also able to provide time-sensitive, life-saving instructions, to assist in CPR, AED use, Obstructed Airways, Childbirth, Naloxone/Narcan use, and proper Tourniquet application.
